The AIS (Automatic Identification System) function, already compulsory on large ships and from now on included in Geonav Power, Wind and Fish programs, allows identifying and locating any ship able to transmit this signal. The purpose is to monitor and track those vessels that, because of their size or use, can be dangerous to safety, environment or navigation. To enable this function, it is necessary an AIS signal receiver able to transfer the signals to the PC in NMEA 0183 format, via serial port.
The ships identified by the AIS receiver, displayed on the chart and represented by icons whose colors differ according to the boat type (ferry boat, oil tanker etc.), show their heading vector with a length proportional to the boat's speed.
It is possible to display the information relative to a ship by placing the cursor on the corresponding icon and clicking the mouse. All the data sent by the AIS device will be displayed: i.e. the ship's MMSI ID, name (if available), bearing (latitude and longitude), route, speed, navigation status, etc.
The display of AIS targets and boat's position (as detected by the GPS device) helps enhance the safety of navigation, even if no radar is available. |

The Meteo module allows to display weather forecast data loaded in the PC with “GRIB” (GRIdded Binary : international standard used for storing weather data referred to a geographic grid.) format with a superposed effect.
Weather data in GRIB format can be acquired with institutions which supply this kind of service by requesting the data of interest (barometric pressure, wind direction and intensity, temperature waves movement direction and intensity), the geographic area of reference, the level of detail of the data and forecasts time projection.
The Meteo module is included in GEONAV PC NAV, GEONAV POWER, GEONAV WIND and GEONAV FISH 32 beginning from the release 2.0.3 |
